Recognizing and Responding to Suicide Risk: Essential Skills for Clinicians (RRSR) is an advanced, interactive training based on established core competencies that mental health professionals need in order to effectively assess and manage suicide risk.

The program includes:

• a web-based assessment;
• a two-day face-to-face workshop;
• an online post-workshop mentorship;
• a competency-based curriculum,* derived from empirical evidence and best-practices;
• updated participant manuals with resource materials;
• continuing education credits;
• hand-picked trainers.

The goal is for clinicians to be confident, competent, and prepared to meet the needs of distressed clients and their families.

* These competencies form the basis of Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR), a one-day training developed by the AAS for the Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC). AMSR focuses on knowledge and attitudes, using skill demonstrations, discussions, and journaling through the course. AMSR is suitable for classes of any size. Using a two-day format with a smaller class size, RRSR augments the core AMSR content with skill rehearsal and case application exercises. Communities or organizations may sponsor the RRSR and AMSR together or separately, depending on their training goals and available time and resources. AMSR is offered through the SPRC Training Institute. Sections of the RRSR curriculum are adapted or borrowed from the Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR) curriculum, which is the intellectual property of the Education Development Center, Inc.
