School Suicide Prevention Accreditation Program

Step 1: Upon your request, we will send an application form to you. Fill it out, then return it with the application fee* to AAS.

Step 2: You will receive our School Suicide Prevention Resource Guide, Recommended Reading List, and Sample Tests Questions to guide your preparation for the Accreditation Exam, along with information about how to access the online exam.

Step 3: Once you feel prepared, register with AAS online and take the web-based School Suicide Prevention Accreditation Exam.

Step 4: If you pass (and we hope you do!), you will be mailed a certificate attesting to your accreditation by AAS and, in addition, you will receive a one-year membership** in AAS (a $160 value) free of charge. We will also inform your supervisor and your school's principal (and any others you designate) that you are an accredited school suicide prevention specialist.

Step 5: If you fail to pass the exam (and we hope you don't), you will have the opportunity to take a parallel form of the exam at any time between 30 and 365 days after being so informed, at no extra cost to you.

Step 6: Once you pass, you will receive a password-protected entry into our online support system which will give you access to other accredited prevention specialists and subject-matter experts for networking, sharing, Q&A, new resources, and opportunities for on-going continuing education offered only to accredited specialists.

* Fees: $350 for school-based professionals; $250 for graduate students with proof of student status.
** Includes subscription to our professional journal, Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, and two quarterly newsletters, Newslink and Surviving Suicide.
